Thailand e-Visa from Portugal: how residents apply online in 2026

The Royal Thai Embassy in Lisbon only accepts visa applications online. Here is who needs a Thai tourist visa, how the thaievisa.go.th process works for residents of Portugal, and the documents to upload.
In this article
Short answer: if your passport is not visa-exempt for Thailand (for example Bangladeshi, Nepali or Pakistani), you apply for a tourist e-Visa on the official portal thaievisa.go.th. The Royal Thai Embassy in Lisbon handles applications from Portuguese citizens and legal residents of Portugal, and it has accepted visa applications only online since October 2022. Approved visas arrive by email. Every traveller also completes the free TDAC arrival card before arrival.
Information as of October 2026.
Do you need a visa?
- Visa-exempt passports (including Portuguese, most EU and Brazilian) can visit without a visa. Since 15 September 2026, the standard visa-free stay has been cut from 60 to 30 days, according to announcements in the Royal Gazette.
- Other passports need a visa before travelling. The tourist visa (TR) usually allows a stay of up to 60 days.
Your residence in Portugal decides where you apply (Lisbon), not whether you need a visa.
Step by step
- Go to thaievisa.go.th (the only official portal) and create an account.
- Select Portugal as the country where you apply and the embassy in Lisbon.
- Choose the visa type, usually Tourist Visa (TR), single entry.
- Upload documents (below).
- Pay the fee online. The portal shows the exact amount before payment.
- Wait for the e-Visa by email and print it. Airlines and immigration ask to see it.
Documents to upload
- passport bio page, valid at least six months, and a recent photo
- proof of legal residence in Portugal: your TRC
- flight reservation in and out of Thailand
- accommodation booking or invitation
- bank statements, usually for the last few months, showing enough funds
- other documents the portal asks for, such as an employment letter
The TDAC arrival card
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card replaced the paper form. It is free and must be completed online at tdac.immigration.go.th within the three days before arrival. Visa-exempt travellers need it too.
Tips
- Apply at least three to four weeks before travel.
- Use only the official portal; agent sites with similar names charge extra.
- The fee is not refunded if you choose the wrong visa type.
